Extra Curricular Activities

The Physical Education Department operates an extensive extra curricular programme, described by OFSTED as "outstanding". All who wish to take part are welcome to participate and are encouraged with support to make progress through the Performance Pyramid.

Foundation level
All pupils introduced to a wide variety of activities through the School's Physical Education Programme.

Participation level
girls choose to take part in selected activities, out of hours for enjoyment, friendship, health and fitness.

Performance level
Participants commit themselves to attend formally organised team practices where they receive coaching.

Excellence level
Some pupils gain representative honours, training regularly with district, county and regional teams or elite squads.

Autumn and Winter terms

Gymnastics club
For girls interested in improving their own level of performance. Mixed age range. Participants work towards the BAGA Award Scheme and present routines at the School Open Evenings.
Competitions held within school, on a local basis and we enter the North West Sports Acrobatics and Tumbling Championships in Feb in Wigan.

Lacrosse
A new game for most pupils entering the School. Practices open to all girls. Teams run at Junior and Senior level. Matches played against other schools in the North West Region. Some players move on to represent Cheshire County.

Netball
Many opportunities are available for the development and improvement of performance.
Pupils at Foundation level are encouraged to attend the Monday night after school club or the community based session organised by the School at the Wirral Boys Sports Hall (Thursdays).
Students at Performance level represent the School in inter school tournaments, including the high profile National Schools event.

Many pupils across the age range are selected for the Merseyside and Cheshire county elite squads. A few girls on reaching this level of excellence show further potential and become members of the English Schools Netball Association Talent One squads. There are various inter form Competitions.

Trampolining
A recreative activity open to all girls in Year 7, 8 and 9. Pupils register for a six week course. Sessions are based on the BAGA Ten Stage Trampolining programme. Teams also take part in the Merseyside Schools Competitions.

Volleyball
A sport which is well supported at both Junior and Senior level. Some candidates choose Volleyball as a demonstration activity for G.C.S.E. and A level. In recent years pupils have represented Wirral, Cheshire, the North West and Great Britain.

Cross Country Club

This club introduces girls to middle distance running and sprinting training sessions.
Pupils participate in the Wirral Short Course League, Wirral Schools, Championships, and Merseyside League & Northern Schools.

Dance
An enrichment activity open to all girls across the age range.
Pupils develop an awareness of variety of dance forms and devise their own motifs, by applying compositional principles. An annual dance show takes place in which over 400 girls take part.
A dance competition is held and is open to every girl.

Football
A popular extra curricular opportunity, which helps pupils, enhance their knowledge of the tactics and strategies associated with invasion games.
Year 7 & 8 play in the Wirral Schools cup and in the Tranmere Rovers trophy.
Under 16's play in the Wirral Schools cup.
Fixtures are arranged throughout the year.

Hockey
Popular new activity.Club sessions open to all pupils. Yr 7,8,9 and 10 play in the emerging Hockey League at Oldershaw School

Badminton Club
Regular and popular activity.
Pupils compete in inter school tournaments and fixtures played against other schools.
Great club night for all ages.

Fitness room and Aerobics
Well equipped and up to date fitness room open to all pupils every lunch time and every night after school

Table Tennis
Recreative club for any interested pupils.

Summer term

Rounders
Inter school fixtures are held weekly for each age group. Pupils at performance level, are chosen to represent their year in the Wirral District Rounders Rallies and take part in the North West Schools Competition.

Tennis
Practices open to any girl interested in taking part.
At Under 14 and Under 16 level, pupils participate in the HS13C Team Championship, also Inter School tournaments take place.

There is a well established link with Port Sunlight Tennis Club. Students can receive additional instruction from a qualified LTA coach.

Athletics
Practices focus on Hurdling, the Sprints, throwing events and the Long Jump.
All girls are welcome to attend.

Pupils wishing to gain further competitive experience take part in Area Championships.
Teams in the Under 13 and Under 15 age group enter the English Schools Track and Field Cup Competition.

The School also has close ties with the Wirral Athletic Club.

Kwik Cricket Club
activity, which leads to girls representing the school in the Merseyside Youth Games.
